On Maui's rugged north shore is Kahakuloa Valley. For an all too brief period of time I had the good fortune to live in this isolated region. This beautiful and rugged landscape was populated with small family taro farms. Deep in the mountains are hidden pools fed by waterfalls that can only be reached by foot. In many ways life here was a modern approximation of what life must have been like in old Hawaii. I'll always remember this experience as one of the highlights of my life.
